South Park

Premier ranches, no membership

Established in 2003 by local ranchers and fly-fishermen, the goal of South Park Fly Fishers is to secure new public recreation opportunities on private lands. With a grant from Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) we have secured fly-fishing leases on six private ranches in South Park. A portion of each rod fee goes directly to the participating rancher. The balance of revenues will be used to secure future access leases that provide secluded fly-fishing experiences in spectacular settings. If the program is successful in 2004, new leases will be added in following years.

About the Area

South Park, Colorado, is known internationally for its productive trout waters. Over 50 miles of public streams are designated as Gold Medal trout water by the Colorado Division of Wildlife. These streams possess the highest quality aquatic habitat and offer the greatest potential for angling success in Colorado. At the same time they are some of the most highly publicized and heavily fished streams in the state. Many other waters in South Park are equally productive but have never been open to the public. Six of these properties are now available to anglers through the South Park Fly Fishers access program.

Selecting a Property

Start by looking at our property descriptions to determine which stream(s) look appealing. Then look at the reservation calendar to see if that property is available on a preferred date. Be flexible and have an alternate property or date in mind — typically more options are available on weekdays. Some of our streams are small and intimate while others are large with diverse habitat. Daily fees are based on a combination of stream size, habitat diversity and fish holding capacity. Consequently, some properties support more fish (and larger fish) per mile of stream than others. Only two anglers are allowed per day on each property but adjacent properties may be combined to accommodate parties of three or four.
